Overcoming Imposter Syndrome Part 2
A discussion with Dame Susan Devoy

Nau mai te hapa, ma te hapa ka ako

Patua te taniwha, whakama he!

Welcome the mistakes, it’s from the mistakes we learn

Hit away the shy monster

Interview with Dame Susan Devoy

  • Focus on the things you can do and focus on doing them really well

  • Relationships are important

  • You don’t know everything, so seek help in a mentor who has your best interest at heart who will tell you the truth

  • You can’t be everything to everyone, so surround yourself with good people

  • Ask for help when you need

  • Have some self awareness for your abilities and take some responsibility for recognising for yourself when you do things well. Acknowledge those moments.

  • It’s easy to focus on the negative, so we need to make a deliberate effort to seek what is working well, even if it’s the little things

  • Lift people up

  • Don’t forget to do all the steps you need to take to get from where you are to where you want to be. Biting off little pieces you can chew until you get to your goal

  • Setting achievable long term goals

  • Focus on process rather than outcome

  • Important to know that when you go into a situation, you have done everything you could have done to be successful

  • When you’re in the situation and you’re there long enough, you need to change things you can

  • Understanding what you have control over is important, so you are not putting energy into things that are not yours to hold

  • Humans should be more like dogs!
