UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING

IMPLEMENTATION

He Pikorua is the central framework through which we conduct our everyday RTLB mahi. As a result, the related practice sequence is referenced explicitly through each phase of this implementation tool. This aims to help demonstrate ways we can embed UDL practices through our casework.

Five phases of UDL Implementation:

EXPLORE

PREPARE

INTEGRATE

SCALE

OPTIMIZE

These five phases provide guidance for implementing UDL in any learning environment. For example, with a teacher, a group of teachers, a whole school or a group of schools. It is important to note that the five phases, are closely aligned with the three key UDL principles (engagement, representation, and action and expression) and provide options for each. While this implementation tool has been designed to be followed in a lineal manner, you find it more beneficial to identify where you are at in your knowledge and understanding of UDL Implementation. This is designed for multiple approaches and entry points where you can begin or continue your UDL journey. Consequently, you can jump straight into the 'prepare' or 'integrate' phase depending upon your mahi.
